Independent Advisor

As an independent advisor, every engagement is completely tailored - to your objectives and your organization. Since I set up the business back in 2017, I have learned that what I both love doing the most and seems to deliver the greatest value for clients is in these three key areas:

  • Helping you to improve support for your working parents and their managers

    • Becoming parents - I have designed and deliver group and 121 sessions to support those becoming working parents (the basis of the book) - to help them feel more confident and equipped to deal with the challenges this brings and help you not just retain them but help them to feel even more engaged following this major life change

    • More experienced working parents - tailored sessions and talks to help provide them with tips and tools to proactively deal with the challenges, for example around flexibility and work life balance (and I have experts I can call on in a huge range of subject areas)

    • Managers - who are so critical to the experience of working parents and so often fear saying or doing the wrong thing. I typically run workshop style sessions for them to discuss the challenges and give them a framework to help them feel confident to tackle them.

  • Working with you to design and deliver tactical programmes

    • Sponsorship and Reverse Mentoring Programmes - are a great way to build relationships between your leadership and key employee groups that are unlikely to develop on their own. The example I always use is it's relatively easy for a senior male to take a junior male under his wing, much harder for that same senior male to do so with a junior female. Creating a safe space for these relationships to grow promotes learning (of different perspectives and potential issues), visibility (of people and their skill sets / experience) and opportunities (for the organization in their talent planning as well as supporting leadership development)

    • Research - I often begin working with organisations who are early on in their journeys and are not sure where to start. Getting a better understanding of their 'As Is' is crucial. Not only in helping the leadership team get behind a way forward, but in working out what that way forward is. Part of that is looking at what they data tells us and part of it is what your people think. I therefore typically combine reviewing your data (and often a look at your competitors too) with a survey and interviews so you can feel fully informed when making decisions about your strategy.

  • Being a sounding board for your strategy

    • Although I sometimes provide this for new clients, and there maybe a more practical element - like helping prepare papers for a board discussion - it's typically for clients I have been working with for longer on some combination of the above.  They use me to sense check their approach to specific challenges or potential policy changes, to get insight on trends and sometimes even bring me in to attend workshops to provide an external perspective.

This hopefully gives you a good sense of what I do, but I am always open to a discussion - so please feel free to get in touch, share what you're trying to solve and I'm very happy to see if I can help (and even if I don't feel I'm the right person, I might know someone who is).

Testimonials

“We were looking to launch a pilot sponsorship programme matching high potential female talent with members of our Executive team and asked Catherine to help us design and launch the programme. I enjoyed working with Catherine and really valued her knowledge and experience as she brought this to life for National Gas. She proposed a two-step approach, starting with creating the framework – the principles and how it would work in practice – and then running a half day kick off session with both sponsors and sponsees - to help them understand what it meant for them and give them an opportunity to talk through their concerns. The session was a great success, with overwhelmingly positive feedback and participants feeling excited to get started.``

"I've been lucky enough to work with Catherine more than once over the last few years. Catherine breaks complex issues into simple tasks, and pro-actively engages stakeholders from around the business. Her attention to detail is impressive and her direct, no-nonsense delivery is highly effective. She has a number of skills and tools up her sleeve (and I don't know many who can run a better workshop!). Overall, Catherine is highly capable, totally professional, and has an ability to makes things happen... with skill."

Johnny Moore, Director of Operations, NOW TV

"I first met Catherine as a fellow speaker at an event a couple of years ago. The feedback was brilliant so I invited Catherine to join us at the Omniwomen Annual Summit for c.400 of our top female talent. She did not disappoint.  She has that magic combination of being both knowledgable and incredibly passionate about the subject which makes her really engaging - and her story is hugely inspiring"
